No, that's what you get when cars are /given/ the streets - like we see
today, and motorists are oppressed and treated as cash-cows in repayment
for that privilege, a bit like we see now.

The "oppressed" motorists, already enjoying the lowest motoring costs
evva,

Hardly, even in real terms.

willingly amble down to the milking shed every time they speed
past bright yellow boxes on the side of the road. I have often given
advice on how they could reduce these "unfair" "taxes" to zero, but
driving below the limit seems to be beyond the understanding of so many
drivers. Their loss!

Except that the "income" from fines is trivial compared to the £45
Billion taken in taxes on motoring each year - about 10% of the entire
tax revenue is raised from motoring. Not forgetting the increasing
proportion of local authority revenue derived from car parking fees.

It can't be that great a burden -- sales of gas-guzzling SUVs continue
to be strong, despite high initial cost, high VED rates and high taxes
on the fuel they waste. It's a burden willingly borne, seemingly.- Hide quoted text -

Maybe they can afford it and they do still have a choice, at least we
still do at the moment.

maybe it's a bit like a £100 bike and a £2000 one, still does the job,
but you can chose which to buy ;-)
